Complete Device Setup Guide via Trezor.io/Start
Trezor.io/start is your complete roadmap for unboxing, initializing, and configuring your hardware wallet. Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure your device is production-ready from day one.
Before You Visit Trezor.io/Start: Unboxing Checklist
When your Trezor arrives, verify:
- Packaging is sealed (no signs of tampering)
- Device is included and appears unused
- No recovery seed card is included (red flag if one is present)
- USB cable is present
- Documentation mentions trezor.io/start
If anything looks suspicious, contact Trezor support before proceeding.
Step 1: Connect Your Device
Once at trezor.io/start:
- Connect your Trezor to your computer via USB
- The device should display "Ready to connect" or similar
- Your browser will recognize the device
Security tip: Use a dedicated USB port or high-quality cable. Avoid USB hubs when possible.
Step 2: Update Firmware
Trezor.io/start will check if your device firmware is current. If an update is available:
- Follow the on-screen prompts
- Your device will download and install the latest firmware
- This ensures you have the latest security patches
- The process takes 2-5 minutes
Never disconnect during firmware update.
Step 3: Create a New Wallet
At trezor.io/start, select "Create new wallet":
- Choose between 12 or 24-word recovery seed (24 is more secure)
- Your device generates random words
- You'll write these words down (keep paper nearby)
- Confirm the words are correct
Note: Your device generates the seed—it's never transmitted online.
Step 4: Set Your PIN
During trezor.io/start onboarding, you'll set a PIN on your device:
- Choose a PIN between 4 and 50 digits
- Avoid obvious sequences (1234, 0000)
- Write it down somewhere safe (not digitally)
- Confirm it by entering twice
PIN purpose: Protects your device if physically stolen.
